The Dutch String Quartet by Candlelight
This winter 2024-2025, The Dutch String Quartet will give four Candlelight concerts for the first time ever, filled with the most beautiful music of the last 50 years. Hits we all know from among others The Beach Boys, The Beatles, John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Coldplay, Lady Gaga, surrounded by thousands of LED candles.
A romantic night out? A festive concert with friends? Reflection in the first week of the new year. We will make a beautiful flow in the program working towards Coldplay’s Viva la Vida, and then provide a moment of cooling down where we tend to touch your very soul with last title from the concert…
Will you come and listen to us and toast on the new year? There is a glass of prosecco ready for everyone upon arrival, also non-alcoholic of course. 😉
Why Candlelight concerts?
Because we think it would be wonderful to give them! It was the highest wish on our bucket-list. The enchanting atmosphere, the warmth of the atmospheric candles in the middle of the winter night. We think it would be wonderful to be surrounded in the dark by you, our audience and all those flickering candles. To play the most beautiful pop songs and film music in that setting, without barriers, for a wide audience. During the Christmas holidays, for loved ones, for the whole family…
You, our audience, choose your favorite songs from the set list. Therefor not one concert will be the same.
Two Candlelight concerts will take place on January 3, 2025 in Amsterdam in the Vondelkerk at 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM, entrance € 35.00 including a glass of prosecco on arrival.
Two Candlelight concerts will take place on January 4, 2025 in Arnhem in the Balkonzaal of Musis Sacrum at 7:15 PM and 9:00 PM. Entrance €29.00 including a glass of prosecco on arrival.

Who is the Dutch String Quartet?
The String Quartet during these concerts will be occupied by violinists Julia Rusanovsky, Anita Jongerman, violist Daria Ujejska and me, cellist Scarlett Arts. Julia gave birth to a daughter in the autumn. It will not be clear until the end of 2024 whether Julia will play or whether Marielle Ponsen will join in her place. What makes The String Quartet unique is that it often plays with permanent substitutes because of the musicians’ orchestral jobs and shifts. On YouTube and our website, you can see all our colleagues joining us dozens of times a year. All super-playing professionals who, like us, enjoy playing string quartet. We play about 90 times a year all over the Netherlands and Belgium and on our videos and Instagram account you can see what and where we play.
Around 2010, I, Scarlett Arts, founded The String Quartet. I wanted to form a string quartet that would always have new pop and film music in front of it and ‘just play’ everything!
We succeeded! We are a string quartet that plays at weddings and parties, where people are happy, where tears roll and champagne is poured. Where memories are made. Super valuable! Every booking, the playlist is different because a bride and groom may request two songs. So we are always on the edge of our seats; really exciting :-).
Meanwhile, we, The String Quartet, have also appeared several times on TV with Dokter Tinus, Jinek and Renze and we also played in a sold-out Small Hall of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. During our second concert there, string quartet colleagues Julia, Anita and Laura themselves were the soloists in concerts by J.S. Bach and W.A. Mozart. It was a party!
